Ducane and Weber -- American Business,
December 10, 2004 Robert I. Morrison - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ducane 05 Series Stainless-Steel Gas-Grill Base (Lawn & Patio)
I believe Ducane and Weber's past business practices are a relevant consideration in deciding today whether to purchase their products. In April of 2004, Ducane filed for bankruptcy and rejected all of its "lifetime" warranty obligations. Weber purchased some of the assets of Ducane out of bankruptcy, but specifically refused to acquire the liabilities arising from the previous Ducane warranties. Previous purchasers or Ducane grills who paid extra for the lifetime warranty are, in legal parlance, screwed. If this is the sort of behaviour you want to encourage, I'm sure Ducane/Weber products will represent a fine use of your hard-earned dollars. Alternatively, if you think this behaviour is odious, you may want to consider an alternative manufacturer.

We, too, ordered a Ducane Grill Head and Base and did not receive the "four heavy-duty casters" that were supposed to be in it.
I called Ducane's toll-free number and was helped by a nice lady who not only sent the casters but asked me if the inserts were with the base. Since I wasn't sure, she sent the inserts, too. The casters and inserts arrived a week after I called them.
Turns out the inserts were already in the holes in the base, so all we had to do was insert the casters, which was very easy.
Now, putting the grill head and base all together was not especially easy; the directions are woefully inadequate, and some tasks take two people.
We've had a Ducane grill for several years, lasting longer than the other natural gas grills we have had. The slogan "Buy your last grill first" is stretching it a bit because you will probably have to buy new innards at some point. In fact, the innards were so expense at our...Read more
