Summary: Oregon Scientific Digital Thermometer 2008-12-01
Comment: This is an excellent product, much easier to use than the previous one that I owned (different brand). Shipping was very fast.

Summary: Accurate, Simple, and Fun 2008-11-30
Comment: I bought mine for Thanksgiving and it worked out perfectly. I was even able to adjust my stove because the degree knob was not accurately adjusted. For the fun of it I tested it on a few different items like taking my own temperature, read 98.6 consistently.
Its simple and fun to use. The screen is self lit, you have the option of using preset temperatures for cooking specific types of meat, fish, or poultry or you can set your own desired temperature. The voice indicators are loud and easy to understand and for a bonus you have a timer built in.
I have already shown this device to a few friends who also want one. Makes Christmas easy for me.

Summary: Not very good 2008-11-27
Comment: Thanksgiving a.m. and I tried to use this and it didn't work. I read the instructions 20 times but couldn't get it to work. Went to the OS web site but nothing helpful. I finally read comments on Amazon.com about resetting both units at the same time, which got it to work, finally. Amazing that there is nothing about it in the instructions. I went about 30 feet from the kitchen and sometimes the connection failed and I had to go back and wait for it to reconnect. When it works it's fine, but if I had the option I'd buy something easier to use.

Summary: Great concept, needs quality improvement 2008-11-20
Comment: I received this as a gift in late 2007. This product is a great concept, as I've been able to use it in a variety of applications: grilling, baking/roasting, and an outdoor smoker.
Unfortunately, it stopped working after 4 uses. The temperature reading would be way off, like 178 degrees at room temperature, 59 degrees for an ice slurry (chipped ice/water; used to determine accuracy), etc.
The Oregon Scientific website was difficult to navigate and find information about the product, but once I found information it recommended replacing the probe. This was a $10 cost + s/h. I shouldn't have to do this for a new product.
It worked once, then the problems started again. It's within the warranty period of 1 year, so we'll see of Oregon Scientific honors it. I'm being cautiosly optimistic.
In the meantime, be aware that this product requires some quality improvement to become more consistent.

Summary: Great Product!!! 2008-11-04
Comment: I've used other wireless thermometers and they do not hold a candle to this little gem. I live in a 3 story townhouse apartment, so my living room is on the 2nd floor... quite a ways away from my smoker. The other wireless thermometers that I've had could never read the signal at the grill when I put them on my coffee table. Call me lazy but when I'm smoking food I hate having to walk up and down my stairs to the patio and back up to the living room when I'm trying to watch a ballgame. The Oregon AW131 thermometer reaches this far though and I couldn't be happier with it. The temp readings are very accurate and I've had no problems with it whatsoever. Very good product and I highly recommend it!
