Summary: 5 Stars for Grill Lines, 1 Star for knobs and grate cleaning 2006-06-24
Comment: We purchased the Patio II more than 5 years ago. Many of the local dealers do not provide direct service support, and outsource to a few handyman outfits. The TEC grill is the best for high heat cooking, and its low setting is too hot. The ceramic plates have issues with accumulating drips, and often corrode from the inside out, which creates a popping from internal gas pockets. That knocks out that ceramic plate for awhile. After the 5th expensive service call, the technician finally went to training and was able to talk to me about some of the recurring problems. He did teach me how to align the knobs, but that does not last. After a few more calls about replacing the ceramic plates, he never came back or called back. The weak and loose knobs are still a problem, despite replacing them over time. The stainless steel body keeps the grill looking great, and it has been least 4 years without a cover, surviving hostile winters. The grates are very unique to this technology, as they trap juices in a "U" shape channel. This is a great feature, but they are very difficult to keep clean. So, I give it a 5 for high heat cooking and charring a steak, a 1 for the knobs and ceramic plate (expensive to replace,) and a 3 for overall cleaning (body parts easy, grates are very difficult.) If you do not like char lines or sizzle, then go for a slower cooking grill. This grill cooks HOT on low! Unfortunately, I have to give a 1 for service. Overall let's go with a 3.
